The inspiration for this project came from a poem "Tsunami Awakening" written by Ted Barrett.
This track was produced and hosted in New Zealand
using the internet to collaborate with an international cast of
talented musicians. The purpose of this song is to help raise
funds for relief-aid efforts in South-East Asia, after the extensive devastation
caused by major earthquakes and subsequent tsunamis on December 26, 2004.
lyrics
The day after Christmas, 2004
The waters rose in a wave of horror
Thousands of people lost their lives
Children, lovers, husbands and wives
What can we do?
Buddhist, Muslim, Christian and Jew
We shed our tears, now let us pray
What can we I do? To help ease their pain
Pull together, open our hearts
We'll find a way.... if we try
Fishing villages, resort towns
All were flattened, as the waves crashed down
Some were asleep there, some gave the cry!
A few were spared, but most gave their lives
What can we do?
Athiest, Seik, Hindu
We shed our tears, now let us pray
What can we do? To help ease their pain
Pull together, open our hearts
We'll find a way.... if we try
Let us pray, this holy day horror
Unites the world, in this time of sorrow
This deadly cataclysm, from deep within the earth
Shows us all to be of equal worth
What can we do? Here's what I'll do!
While I weep, the planet is wounded,
Our help is in need, I give all that I can
What can we do? Here's what we'll do (dig deep)
Give love and compassion, relief aid and hope,
Anything helpful, give all that you can
What can we do? What Can I do?
(All that we can)
What can we do?
Ooooh, oooh
When their world's torn apart
We can rebuild them with our hearts
